On completion of this course, the participants should be able to:
1- Assess the features of the initial assessment for infants, children, and adolescents in the ABCDE approach.
2- Discuss a general approach to pediatric airway emergencies, including the difficult airway.
3- Demonstrate procedural skills in pediatric airway management and vascular access.
4- Describe the indications and technique for critical procedures such as intraosseous needle placement, needle thoracostomy and pericardiocentesis.
5- Describe and discuss clinical features and emergency management of central nervous system, surgical, metabolic, and cardiovascular disorders.
6- Plan the management for life-threatening medical emergencies.
7- Describe the anatomic and clinical differences of the pediatric trauma patient that affect response to injury and management. Establish the management priorities of the life-threatening injuries identified in the primary survey.
8- Recognize and manage common problems in children with special health care needs
9- Describe the general management principles, and the decontamination methods and specific therapies for common poisonings.
10- Describe common presentations of child neglect and abuse. Explain the doctor's responsibility in notifying authorities of suspected child maltreatment.
11- Describe the basis for the development of safe and effective procedural sedation and analgesia practices.
